one after another は「次々に」という意味。複数の人やものが短い間隔で順々に何かをするということ。

「one after the other」
one after the other は「交互に」という意味。2人の人やものがかわるがわる何かをするということ。たとえば2人の人が交互に運転をするときの「交互に」だね。
また、one after another と同じように「次々に」という意味でも使われる。これは複数の人やものが順々に何かをするということ。
その場合は3人以上でもいいんですか？
そう、例文を見てみよう。
They drove the car one after the other.
彼らは交互に車を運転した。
He raised his hands one after the other.
彼は左右交互に手を上げた。

生徒たちは次々に到着した。
このように one after the other は「交互に」とか「次々に」という意味になるよ。
